An historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal nestles on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th Century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate.
Reviews
"Another excellent and thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Granary, one of our favourite houses/cottages in the south Lakeland area - and beyond! The 3-storey house is well off the main road in lovely rolling fields, and the accommodation is spacious, light and well-heated. Always a generous welcome pack including nuts, homemade preserve, and Kendal mint cake to greet us in the kitchen. Wonderfully quiet, with hardly a sound from the main road, as the house is well off the road down a track. The first-floor bathroom was completely renovated last year, and the owners have done an excellent job. I think the kitchen may be the next room on the list for renovation. We look forward to a return to this lovely, welcoming home."
"This was our third stay at The Granary, one of our favourite houses/cottages in this area. Set well off the main road in lovely rolling fields, we always enjoy visits to this welcoming and spacious house. Always a generous welcome pack of wine, nuts, homemade preserve, and Kendal mint cake to greet us in the kitchen! Quiet - hardly a sound from the main road, as the house is well off the road down a track. Lovely to watch the sheep and lambs playing in the fields around during our spring stay. The first-floor bathroom was completely renovated earlier this year, and the owners have done an excellent job. We shall return as soon as we can!"
"Set in lovely farmland, we simply loved our stay at the Granary. On arrival we found a welcome pack of wine, home made jam & Kendal mint cake - a lovely touch! Quiet, secluded and yet very easy acess as it is fairly close to a main road into Kendal."
