Eyam is one of the best-preserved villages in the Peak District National Park, nestled at the foot of Sir William Hill, 800ft above sea level and is surrounded by the most glorious countryside. Historically the village is known as the famous 'plague village', as it went into voluntary quarantine when the plague was imported from London in 1665 and thus prevented the spread of the disease. There are many fine old houses in Eyam, and parts of the village have been kept as they looked several centuries ago, such as Eyam Hall, a beautiful 17th century manor house with delightful gardens, craft shops and tea rooms.
Reviews
"We stayed here just prior to Christmas 2017. The cottage is nicely decorated and furnished and well thought out. The owner has paid considerable attention to detail. For example it was nice to find a Christmas tree when we arrived! The wood burning stove in the lounge was prepped such that a single match got it burning in minutes. That said the central heating meant the cottage was toasty warm on arrival anyway. We were pleasantly surprised how well equipped the kitchen was. For example there was a sharpener to put an edge on the knives, there were electronic kitchen scales and a set of teaspoon/tablespoon measures. There are wine glasses, champagne glasses and a full dinner service. There's a casserole dish, pots, pans. They've thought of everything! In the lounge there are guide books, a welcome pack with details of local pubs and restaurants, a pack of cards, dominoes, jigsaw puzzles and other games. There is parking on the street right in front of the cottage. The Miner's Arms pub is a 10 minute walk and Eyam Hall is 5 minutes away. For real ale drinkers there is a little business at Eyam Hall craft centre selling an excellent selection of bottled local real ales (and a couple of ales on draught) which came in handy. All in all it was very pleasant indeed."
"When I arrived in Eyam not only was the cottage amazing but so was the people. Eyam is a very historic place so much to learn..you can actually feel the sadness of what the village went through many years ago :( :("
"A wonderfully equipped cottage with everything you needed. A great base for walking cycling and visits to national trust properties and chatsworth. The owners have thought of everything including lunch boxes and flasks. The wood burner was lovely for the 1 night we needed it. We will return. "
"Deceptively roomy, this quintessentially English cottage marries countryside charm with modern conveniences. The surprisingly well appointed kitchen will make budding chefs happy and make holiday essentials, such as a 'Full English' an easily achievable task. The sitting room is comfortable and cosy, especially as there is a log burner for those chillier evenings. The bedroom to is both charmingly 'country' as well as clean, comfortable and spacious. For a property of this size the bathroom is positively expansive. A bijou bath may not accommodate 6 footers for a soak, but the large 'rain' shower is bliss. It's the cottage you'll think you'd like to own!"
"Well equipped cottage for two in Eyam. Good quality presentation. In centre of village and ten mins walk to pub with good food. Good spot for exploring Dales. Quite but convenient. On bus route . Steep stairs. Parking outside is not always available ."
