Reviews
"The cottage is shown as having a 5-star rating. This is misleading. If all had been well, I would have rated it as 4-star. As thing were, I can only rate it 3-star. I think the cottage is good value for its price. Royds Hall Cottage is set in a stunning location with fabulous views from every window. The cottage is very spacious and comfortably furnished. All the rooms were warm except the kitchen which in the very bad weather we had was cold and draughty. The bed was very comfortable with nice bed linen. There were lovely rugs throughout the cottage. The cottage is in need of TLC. The kitchen windows leaked. The plaster on the walls and ceiling in the bedroom had some cracks in it. The windowsills were in need of painting. Although the cottage was clean there was quite a lot of dust on the chandelier type light fittings. The downstairs toilet seat was in urgent need of replacement. The shower is very poor as the water pressure is very low. I personally experienced no problems with the track to the cottage, you just have to take it slowly. I did have difficulty getting a phone signal but my friend on another network had no problems. The wi-fi was good. As I said on this basis, I would happily give it 4 stars, but there were significant issues with cleanliness in the kitchen when we arrived, probably caused by the previous guests but the owners should check. There was a film of grease over the of plastic of the cutlery tray and the cutlery was greasy. We had to clean the drawer and wash all the cutlery. The plates were greasy and had greasy smeared finger prints on them. The glasses were in an appalling state. All had a thick layer of grease on them. One had obviously been used for orange juice and still had bits of orange stuck to it. We had to wash all of the crockery and glasses we were going to use before we could use them. The wood-burner had to be cleaned out before we could get anything to light. Although the heating was efficient and the rest of the cottage lovely and warm the kitchen remained cold and draughty. The owners were friendly and helpful and willingly changed the heating timer to come on earlier than the 8am which it had been set for. It is not possible to over-ride the settings other than to adjust the temperature up or down by a couple of degrees. Make sure you take fresh milk etc for when you arrive as the nearest shop is about 2 miles away. I don't feel I can recommend the cottage as it was for me."
