The picturesque village of Castleton nestles in the beautiful Esk Valley, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this bustling village offers superb amenities including two pubs, both serving great food, a village shop, a convenience store, a Post Office, tea rooms and a small art gallery. There is a railway station serving the Esk Valley and Whitby, which also links with the steam line to the attractive market town of Pickering. The Camphill Village Trust community of Botton is nearby, with its craft workshops and shops selling home produced food, craft items and books. The historic city of York is just over an hour away, and the coastal towns and villages of Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hood's Bay and Sandsend with its lovely beach, are within easy driving distance, and well worth a visit.
Reviews
"The owners clearly take pride in presenting a beautiful spotlessly clean cottage with everything needed for the perfect peaceful break away."
"Lovely location, cottage was spotless , so very well maintained. Parking was a bit difficult but ok,getting cases etc down from the car to the cottage can be difficult. Local towns and beaches veery close, you can catch the train to Whitby at the station located at the bottom of the garden !!!! This cottage is highly recommended apart from the lack of broadband and mobile phone signal but you can get wi-fi at the pub (5 mins walk )"
"We had the time of our life and plum cottage gave us a look into the true England. The cottage was a modern take on traditional style with out sacrificing any of the modern convinces. Tucked away in a small village in the North Yorkshire moores one could feel the fast pace of the city slip away and yet with a train located at the bottom of the garden you could plan a day exploring nearby sights with great ease. The owners are close by and a lovely couple if you needed any thing they were most gracious and were very willing to try and accommodate their guest to make their stay flawless. They are working on a second cottage so if a small group was going there would be room for all. We are already saving up for our next trip to England and Plum Cottage is on the top of the list ."
"This self-catering cottage was spotlessly clean, with fully equipped kitchen & comfortable bedroom. It was very quiet at night and we slept well. There was a private, sunny garden and terrace area, with table and chairs, which was great for late afternoons/early evenings. The bike storage provided was secure and a washing machine with outside line & pegs made it really convenient for a cycling holiday. We also made the most of the local railway literally at the bottom of the garden for day trips to Whitby and (via steam train) to Pickering. With a pub or two in most of the small villages between Castleton and Whitby, it was easy to find somewhere for lunch while out for the day. The property owners were friendly and helpful and provided everything needed for a week's self-catering holiday in a first-rate cottage. We'd definitely go back.."
"From the moment we arrived and opened the front door we could not have been more delighted with our choice of accommodation. Perfectly located for keen walkers and those who wish for short drives out to Rivaux Abbey, Whitby and Scarborough and a short walk from the village of Castleton. The property was spotless and the welcoming touches of cookies and dog treats for our pet showed that the owners have really thought about their guests. The main room looks out onto a wonderful garden and the bird feeders are regularly topped up so the avid twitcher will not go short of opportunities. Should you not wish to cook the Eskdale Arms is 150 yards away and serves good hearty meals or walk into Castleton to The Downe Arms for good beer and good food."
