Reviews
"I booked the cottage for a long weekend away for my Mum's 60th birthday, just 3 adults and 3 dogs (although the cottage easily accommodates up to 9 people). Although a little difficult to find (I blame the satnav), Chris was at the end of the phone to direct us. The cottage is beautiful, quaint, quirky and incredibly homely. I really can't fault it. There was everything you could need and the cupboard of bits and bobs such as tea, coffee etc was a lovely welcome. Although I did make a Tesco online order beforehand which arrived within an hour of us getting to the cottage, so we soon had the cupboards and fridge full of our home comforts too. The cottage is situated quite close to a main road but once you're inside you can't really hear the traffic and, let's be honest, a main road in Upton Bishop is like a quiet cul-de-sac back home. We spent an hour in the pub opposite on Sunday afternoon which I can highly recommend. The staff are lovely and, whilst we didn't eat there, the restaurant seemed very busy so I imagine the food must be good. Ross-on-Wye is just a 10 minute drive away for those who like a mooch around the shops and, if you're the unlucky one who ends up waiting outside the shops with the dogs, you won't be alone - the town is full of people in the same boat who are all very friendly and welcoming. The dogs absolutely loved their break and the cottage provides towels to dry their paws as well as drinking bowls and throws for dogs who sneak on the sofa when you're not looking. All in all a wonderful weekend at a place that I would definitely recommend! "
"We spent 7 nights at Blind Mans Gate for a family celebration. The property sleeps up to 9 comfortably, and is in a good location to visit The Forest of Dean and surrounding areas. The property itself is very old and characterful, and you do have to forgive it a few quirks and creaks - plus a little tires in places - but we loved that about it. The beds are very comfortable and it is very pet friendly (a real asset for us). Our only real issue was that we lacked enough comfortable seating in one room - i.e. where all 8/9 people can sit around as a family. The 'main room' would take this as there is an additional table in there that we personally did not use (there is another larger table in the kitchen that we did use) and ideally this could be replaced with another sofa. There is more seating in an additional 'TV' room (again very comfortable), but sadly still only really seating up to 6. So - if you are a smaller party (or a larger group and are OK with a few on the floor / on dining room chairs or in another room) then it really is great and highly recommended..."
