Reviews
"This cottage offers a lot. It sleeps four and has two bathrooms. It is clean and comfortable with plenty of room. If you have pets (dogs are welcome) or children (Also welcomed I assume) then it offers an enclosed back garden of lawn for them to excercise and enjoy. It is equipped with almost everything you would want including a dishwasher and a washing machine. It is single storey with parking outside the front door so easily accessible (although a couple of steps up to the door itself). An excellent location for touring the area. Many good pubs in the area and Brampton is easy to get to for Coop and Spar supermarkets. Friendly and very helpful owners. All in all there are many positives about this place but also a few niggles. The garden is a nice place to sit out in on a sunny day and furniture is provided for that and also lovely picture windows in the lounge but, unfortunately, considering the lovely countryside around, the view is almost totally obscured by the modern barn. Yes, I know it is a farm but it is a pity the view is so restricted. Also the large picture windows in the lounge allow the room to get very hot indeed on a sunny day but the only way to get any air in is to open the door to the patio which can cause problems on a breezy day we found. Also, on our visit, the lock to this door had also jammed and made it very difficult to open and relock. This was fixed on our last day. Towel rails in the bathrooms were supposed to be controlled by clever electronic timers/thermostats but neither worked properly during our vist. One was on all the time (very hot - care needed with children) and the other did not work at all, even after the owner tried to fix it, so that bathroom was quite cool first thing in the morning. Bathroom mirror lighting (needed as ordinary lighting made it difficult to shave/make up properly) didn't work in either bathroom. One was fixed by owner later in week. Another irritation was the free WiFi. We did not book through Sykes but another agency. However it seems that Sykes provide the free WiFi (6 MB and keeps dropping out) and, as a condition of signing on, want to know your name, sex, date of birth, email address, mobile phone number, etc. Personally I resent having to provide such detailed information for such a service especially when I did not even use their company to book. I stress that the owners were always very nice and helpful and did their best to help fix the problems and I cannot really fault them (although I do wonder why so many things needed fixing, especially at the beginning of the season). Overall actually a good place to stay but, with a little more effort, it could be great."
"Stayed here for a week with our young family. The super friendly owners met you on site to show you around Cottage and tell you about local attractions etc. The house itself was lovely and the sun room stunning. Our kids loved being able to play out the back in the enclosed garden. We opened the sun room door and let them play away, whilst we could see them at all times through the sun room. In a rural location perfect for exploring Cumbria and the northern Lakes. Milton Mains holiday cottage are only a couple of miles away from Talkin Tarn Country Park. We visited the park 3 times during our stay. You can walk around the Lake, feed the ducks and the kids take advantage of the new sand play area there. It was a lovely wee quiet spot. Hadrians Wall right on your doorstop. You are only a couple of miles away from the Aviation Museum which my husband really enjoyed. Walby Farm Park only about 10 mins away and it was a great day out if you have young children. Carlisle town is about 20 minutes away. About 45 minutes took you into Keswick, beautiful little place, really something about it and amazing sand park there also and the Lakes, well what can I say. Amazing!!! Went this direction 2 days and it was lovely to return to base to the lovely comfortable Swift Cottage after a day out. We lit the BBQ provided one sunny evening and enjoyed the new wicker outdoor furniture provided too. We were blessed with fantastic shorts and t shorts weather all week. It rained one morning and one night but bar that, we were really fortunate to have a dry sunny week (2 days scorchers)! Many thanks Mable and John for the use of your lovely Cottage."
"This cottage was superb, everything you want for a relaxing, peaceful, luxurious break. Owners were so welcoming and friendly and were not intrusive during our stay. Great value for money, only issue was weather which is totally out with the owners control, unfortunately . Will definitely be back!"
"Can't fault swift cottage at all. We decided to spend the second half of our honeymoon here with the sole purpose of relaxing and getting away from it all and that's exactly what we did. The cottage is situated in the small town of Milton which is about a mile away from Brampton (which has a co-op, pubs, take aways, golden fortune chinese delivers and is very nice, coffee shops etc.) Milton itself is very quiet but that's exactly what we were after. There was a lovely walk through a nearby forest which we both enjoyed, and there are plenty of other things to see and do in the local area, Hadrians wall is about 4 miles away and Carlisle is about 10 miles away if you want to go shopping. As other reviewers have said there aren't a lot of big supermarkets nearby so I would suggest doing a shop closer to home and taking it with you, there is plenty of cupboard space and a decent size fridge freezer to store everything. The cottage itself is exactly what you'd want for a short break. Clean, comfortable, and well equipped. We took our own basics, tea coffee sugar etc. but found it was already there which was great, there's a dish washer to save on washing up which was even better and the cottage was clean from top to to bottom. The log fire was great with enough wood to keep you going for a couple of days and more available for a small fee should you need it. We took our dog which has been an issue in places we have stayed previously as she's a bit of an escape artist and so we have to leave her tied up or behind closed doors to prevent her escaping, wasn't an issue here though! A previous reviewer mentioned pallets on parts of the fence in the garden to plug some holes but these have now gone and the fence is complete giving an excellent enclosed space for dogs to run around, we didn't sit out there because of the weather but I imagine in summer it would be nice to sit and have a bbq and a drink out there. We didn't end up using the hot tub but that looks great as well. What more can i say...friendly owners...great accommodation....lovely area...perfect!"
"Myself, boyfriend, my sister and her partner all visited The Swift Cottage over May bank holiday weekend - with our two dogs. We couldn't have wished for a better weekend! We were greeted on arrival, and shown around the beautifully furnished cottage - all brand new and beautifully finished. We chose the Swift Cottage simply on having it's own, private/fenced off garden - which worked better with us having the dogs. The kitchen was fully equipped with more than the basic essentials, the log burner supplied with plenty of wood/paper and lovely new bedding and towels. The hot-tub being 'shared' was far from an issue. Just a short walk across the courtyard to the summer house where you can hang a dressing gown/flip flops and jump in! It's on all year, so it's really warm - fantastic to watch the sun go down with a glass of bubbles...all to ourselves too! The area is very quiet, there's a walk through the woods just across the road from the Cottage, ideal to walk the dogs in a morning - or a short drive to many areas! The 4 of us really enjoyed our stay, and couldn't recommend it strongly enough! We look forward to returning in the summer :) thank you for having us!"
