Reviews
"Stayed here in half term and was really looking forward to some time out with my husband and kids (13,10) but was left feeling a little disappointed. The cottage needs a lick of paint in my opinion. Kitchen was spot on, very comfy beds and adequate hanging space. To me the property looks like someone has stated to modernise it but then given up. The downstairs carpet was very grubby and was actually rather smelly. On arrival I tired to run a bath, but the water was 'luke warm' at best. We did contact owner who came out to see if they could adjust this and the heating (it was also quite cold, but admittedly I am always cold). Things were fine for a few days until the day we went to the spa (spa passes were included),. On arrival to spa, the receptionist informed us that the pass had expired and we were not allowed access. Again we rang the owner, my husband explained what happened and they asked to speak to the receptionist. Receptionist allowed us in but made quite a deal out of the fact she shouldn't be allowing us in, which was a little embarrassing in front of others. A new pass for the spa was posted through the property door the following day by the owners, which my husband did make use of. A few days later we were once again out of hot water and all the upstairs taps ran mucky brown with what looked like dark sand in it. Contacted owners who were out of the country and said they would arrange for a plumber to come at 08:30am the next day. The plumber arrived at 11:15am, I did inform the owner but got no response. Plumber seemed to not be surprised and said it the boiler needs replaced and it was too big a job to do while we were there. He would inform owners and we were to only have showers. I also text the owner to explain what was happening in case they had people staying after us, again I got no reply. I honestly would usually not complain and know I was never off hand or cross, but I think not replying or even offering a small refund for all the bother would have been nice. It also would have been enough to pacify us. Positives, lovely pub close by, very comfy beds, spacious and nice touch with the bottle of fizz on arrival. Negatives, needs some blinds in the toilet and bedrooms, definitely needs new boiler system, and just reply to guests. I am sorry to not give this cottage a good review, but it needs some TLC."
"We were fortunate enough to be able to book Brookfield Cottage, Underbarrow in the absolutely fabulous Lake District for a fortnight this year and it couldn't have been any better...the location for touring the Lake District puts you in the country (and a short walk away from the 5 star Black Labrador pub...which perfectly represents your high end but not snobby British pub!) The cottage is well appointed and the appliances (full size dishwasher, microwave oven, electric oven, washing machine and tumble dryer) could not have been nicer. Comfy sitting room with fireplace and TV, eat in kitchen, 3 bedrooms upstairs with a lovely full bath and also a half bath. The views from all rooms at the back are breathtaking. If you are lucky enough to be able to book into this cottage be sure and fill the bird feeders out back...then sit back and enjoy our feathered friends having their feast! We thank the owners for providing everyone who is lucky enough to visit the Lake District a fine place to stay (and it won't break the bank!)"
"Perfect location for everything we wanted to do. Lovely pub to walk to with very friendly and helpful neighbours. Everything you need was there washing up liquid tea towels tea coffee and even milk and fizz on arrival what more can you ask for. Definitely recommend."
