The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.
Reviews
"The rental was very comfortable, clean and had everything supplied which we could possibly require. The swimming pool was clean and warm. The only disappointment was the swimming pool. When I made the booking through Sykes the picture of the accommodation was shown attached to the swimming pool. There was nothing on the website which listed this as a shared swimming pool. We only discovered that this had been misleading advertising when a friend looked on the website weeks later and informed us that it was advertised as a shared swimming pool. This was extremely disappointing for all of our party as this was the main reason we booked this particular accommodation. The allocation of slots for use of the pool need looking into. To only find out when your slots are on arrival is very unsatisfactory, especially when planning days out and activities away from the rental. For our Friday to Monday stay we were only allocated two one hour slots, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. We also noticed not all of the allocated slots for the pool were used when it would have been more convenient for us to use them. I really do think you should come up with a better system."
"My friends and I had a really lovely week, staying in this high spec cottage that's only about 1 mile from the most amazing beaches. Lovely and quite area with some beautiful scenery and great pubs nearby which makes it a great location for exploring the Northumberland country side. You'll find everything you need for a great self catering holiday as they had thought of everything to make us feel right at home! My friends and I would highly recommend this house."
