Steeped in history and situated at the southern end of the Peak District, the lovely village of Kniveton sits in a deep hollow on the slope of Madge Hill, offering home to a scattering of traditional stone cottages, a village pub and a delightful old church built in the 13th century. Reviews
"Stayed in Hilltop Cottage and the Sykes Cottages reviews are not accurate at all . The property is right on the roadside on a blind bend with no proper footpath. It is very dangerous to access and is supposed to be dog friendly. You cannot access the garden with a dog as it is up a steep set of steps and there is no grass at all,3m x 3m slabs approx. We were nearly knocked down by the speeding traffic as there are 20 + skip lorries every hour thats without the other huge lorries and cars. The noise is horrendous starting at 4.40am every day and the building shakes and due to the hot weather with open windows the curtains are sucked out with passing lorries. There is no parking, just roadside for two cars which was full most days.Despite the owner providing a dongle there is NO mobile phone reception at all and NO internet. This place is totally unsuitable for letting and we left early for safety reasons. A piece of advice dont bother as there are plenty of lovely rentals nearby."
"We were booked in here for a week, but left after one night! Less than eighteen inches from the main road, the lights and noise from the passing cars was awful. Not peaceful, or relaxing and dangerous every time you stepped out the door. There is no garden to sit in, no rear windows to look at a different view than that of the road to the front. It maybe nicely done inside, but that doesn't make for a pleasant stay and there is no phone signal anywhere or internet. Sykes Cottages description was misleading and they have not even apologised, despite several complaints from me. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else!"
