The ancient fishing port of Whitby lies at the mouth of the River Esk and is ideally situated for exploring this beautiful part of Yorkshire, with its superb coastline and close proximity to the spectacular North York Moors. Whitby is a charming and atmospheric town of winding streets and hidden alleys, with a picturesque harbour, safe sandy beaches and of course the Abbey, reached by the famous 199 steps.
Reviews
"Having just spent a great week at this cottage we were so impressed by the accommodation. In past bookings the actual accommodation has not always lived up to the description but this time it surpassed it. The cottage is so well furnished with very tasteful decor and furniture. A lovely bathroom with a shower that doesn't go hot and cold, a kitchen with everything needed including sharp knives! We enjoyed lovely quiet nights in a bed that was perfect. A good fish and chip shop and a bakers 2 minutes away was brilliant and 5 mins to the harbour, what more could you ask for?. The owners have really set a standard that others should follow, you won't be disappointed. "
"Just returning from a fab 4 night break In this beautiful cottage.Love the decor and had everything you could need. Very clean and comfortable accommodation. Close to everything whist having a lovely hidden away location, perfectly placed. Will definitely book again we loved it and had a great, restful break x "
"Located close to all amenities, excellent accomodation for a couple but there is a comfortable sofa bed in the upstairs living area, which suited our party of 3 plus dog."
"We came for a short break, having been to Whitby regularly for many years. This is the first time we had booked a Sykes cottage. The cottage has been beautifully done with Laura Ashley styling everywhere. Little touches like a pint of milk in the fridge and Botham biscuits as a welcome make it a home from home. We had a struggle when we arrived to unload our luggage as the advertised parking is non existant. For the four days we were here the same cars were parked outside with residents parking permits in the windscreens. One couple even go to the extreme of swopping their cars over when the other goes out just so they do not lose their space. If you come to Whitby just be prepared for the parking permit hell that Scarborough CC have implemented. The cottage, once settled in, provides the perfect base for exploring the town. Steep paths are Whitby and you are a short trot to pubs and restaurants but the cottage is tucked away so that you do not get disturbed by any late night revellers which many of the other cottages would suffer from. I would definately recommend this cottage. However I feel Whitby is losing the quaint seaside feel I fell in love with for a more uncaring consummerism."
