Renowned for being the prettiest village in the Lake District, the small town of Cartmel in South Lakeland is a wonderful, picturesque holiday destination. At the heart of this thriving community is the Priory Church, one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in the north of England with its gatehouse still in use as the entrance to the settlement itself. Amidst cobbled streets and pretty streamside walks, are a range of quaint gift shops, antique shops, traditional pubs that serve real ale and the nationally renowned Michelin-starred restaurant L'Enclume. A well-loved destination for hill-walkers, the region is full of excellent trails through stunning, unspoilt countryside. In addition, there is the Campbell Legend Bluebird Exhibition, Lakeland Motor Museum and Hunt Racecourse all in the near vicinity. With Windermere and Grange-over-Sands only a few minutes away, there's plenty for everyone to do.
Reviews
"We have just arrived home after a lovely weekend at Pippin Lodge and we will most certainly be back to visit again soon. From the minute we pulled up outside until the moment we pulled away to leave we were made to feel welcome. Kevin and Kath are lovely owners always on hand if needed, we made a request late last night for some kindling for the fire and Kevin was imedate it his response even delivering it to the lodge for us. The surrounding area is stunning and is a great location to access the lake district."
"arrived on the 23 dec a beautiful christmas tree outside complete with lights awaiting us, inside well laid out, everything we needed and more, immaculately clean, would certainly go back again at the drop of a hat"
"We had a great stay in Pippin Lodge with our 2 dogs. The lodge is really well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. A 15 minute walk into Cartmel and numerous other way marked walks on yor doorstep."
"Luxury lodge in a great location, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lodge is of a high standard lovely place to come back to and relax after a day out. Perfect peaceful retreat just a short stroll from Cartmel which is a delightful village. Ideal place to holiday with your four legged friend would definitely recommend and will return. "
"Only 1 week after the devastating floods that hit Cumbria, we were booked to stay for a long weekend at Pippin Lodge. Apart from a few poor souls on the A590 this area appeared relatively unscathed. On Arrival we were greeted by a spacious, well equipped, centrally heated lodge and the log burner was a real treat. We soon learnt you need to turn the radiator thermostat's right down when you light the burner and only burn one log at a time or by 9.30 the heat is unbearable . Also keep the bedroom door closed until you go to bed to keep the heat out. The lodge is only a few months old so it's spotless . The owners live in a larger lodge opposite that's only been on site since November so further landscaping is due once weather permits. Arriving on Friday we only had time for a short walk with the dogs before dark, then it was time to light the burner and crack open a bottle of wine. Once you have used your starter pack additional logs are available for a small fee. Saturday rained nearly all day , a short trip to the well stocked Booths supermarket at ulveston followed by a look around the small village of cartmell, with its quaint shops it's well worth a visit, then back to the lodge to crack open a bottle of wine. Sunday we woke to a lovely hard frost, a brisk early morning walk with the dogs with snow topped fells in the distance, beautiful. Another walk along the promenade at Grange over Sands with views over the bay and away from traffic it's great for dogs & young children. After lunch we visited wax lyrical ,if scented candles & diffusers are your thing it's well worth a visit. Drove on the Barrow, by then the rain had returned & the draw of the log burner & a bottle of wine was proving to strong. Monday morning arrived to soon, we'd had a wonderful relaxing weekend( the wine may have helped). We would like to wish Kevin & Kath good luck with their new venture although I doubt they'll need it as I cannot see anyone being disappointed with this lodge. We have just booked another lodge near Conniston for Easter week, had Pippin not already been booked we would have been back there. There's always next year! A quick visit to the well stocked farm shop at Low Sizergh on the way home."
