Situated on the borders of North West Derbyshire and Cheshire is the small town of New Mills, forming part of the Derbyshire Peak District. Although the settlement dates back to the 13th Century, the late 20th Century saw the Torrs Riverside Park, often called 'the park under the town' - come into being as a place for recreation and relaxation. To promote tourism in the area, the New Mills Heritage Centre was opened and visitors can enjoy this as well as The Torrs Millennium Walkway, a much-admired bridge set deep within the gorge. Just five miles away is Chapel en le Frith - the Capital of the Peaks - that boasts a cobbled market place complete with historic old stocks. The spa town of Buxton is within easy driving distance and is famous not only for its therapeutic spring water but also for its Pavillion Gardens and splendid Victorian Opera House.
Reviews
"We stayed at the property in July with friends. The location is great. If we hadn't been meeting friends we would have left after the first night. As previous reviewer stated, upstairs was lovely, but it needed a clean. Downstairs was also badly in need of a clean. The worst part for us was a smell downstairs which wasn't pleasant. The sofas stank, and were filthy. Thankfully we were able to sit outside for 2 of our three nights. I have photos of cobwebs (yes, it is an old mill and spiders are natural) around the cooker and in the bedrooms, hair in the plug hole (thought the drainage was poor). Found makeup on the pillowcase, and there were utensils in the kitchen still with food in them. The dust from the bedroom surfaces aggravated our chests for days. Sorry, but there was no excuse for the experience we had when we paid so much money. "
"Handy location to walk to the shops. The small road to the access road leading to the property unfortunately has huge craters (I know that's nothing to do with the property but don't bring your lowered sports car ;D). The upstairs section of the property is absolutely lovely, the bathroom is great, lovely shower and the bed we used was comfy. A couple of coat hooks would be handy. However, the downstairs has an awful concrete floor (presumably to keep the feel of it previously being a clocking in building) so bring some slippers. I couldn't sit on the leather sofa because it stank of cigarettes. The wifi worked well (although it had no password), which was handy as the (huge :) ) tv didn't always have a clear signal. Had a small dishwasher but only one tablet provided for 4 days. Teatowels, cleaning products, really nice handsoap provided and plenty of utensils and pans etc in the kitchen which was great. Also a good selection of knives which is usually a self catering downfall! The oven and extractor work well (sounds daft but so many holiday lets have awful ovens!). The outside seating is nice and also spacious. "
