"Our 8th holiday at the Thatchings was a great as all the others. With newly painted bedrooms and kitchen cupboards and freshly tiled re-vamped kitchen, with a new breakfast bar, it looks fresh as well as homely. There is a new toaster and the settees have been "re-upholstered" and are much more comfortable. The front fence has been adjusted to make parking easier. There are 3 sitting areas outside, on the decking and at the sun-trap picnic table in the back garden, and a new garden seat in the front garden. The shop and post office in Stratton is just up the hill and very convenient for papers, milk, fresh pastries or anything you may have forgotten. Bude is an "all-seasons" town with plenty of shops, restaurants (we recommend Rosies' Kitchen, Life's a Beach, The Weir, Olive Tree), two beautiful beaches, a canal walk, a museum, a salt water sea swimming pool and surf schools. The coast path has great walking along the cliffs in both directions to Widemouth, Northcott and Sandymouth, all fantastic beaches. Port Isaac, Tintagel , Boscastle and Padstow are within easy driving distance down the Atlantic Highway. We can't wait to go back!"

"This is the fourth time that we have stayed as a family at Thatchings and once again we loved it! The owners had clearly listened to recent reviews and since we were there last year the interior has been updated. The kitchen has been painted and tiled, there is also a new cool breakfast bar. The back and front gardens have been tidied up since last time and there's a bench out the front which is a great new addition for sitting and watching the world go by. All the bedrooms have been painted and updated (different to the pictures on the website), Parking is better than previous years as the front fence has been cut back to give more room to get in and out. Other people who park opposite the cottage don't always park with consideration for others. Stratton is an excellent little village with a shop (closes at 6pm) and two pubs, Bude is busy (well it is August) but lush. Tips - Widemouth is the best beach and Duckpool the best for rock pools. Best eat was The Deck in town and the fish n chip van that comes every Thursday into Stratton parks in the car park until 7pm. The park there is also great for little ones, so you never need to leave the village. Anyway loved Thatchings once again. We will be back."

"Our 7th visit to the Thatchings and it was as cosy and welcoming as ever. Although early September with glorious weather the heating came on in the evening to take off the chill, a luxury we wouldn't indulge in at home. It has everything you could want, a home from home, comfy beds and a kitchen full of everything you need to cook and wash. The Post Office and shop up the hill makes for every convenience and the lovely cliff walks, beaches and shops of Bude are minutes away. What more could you want!"

"Thatchings is a lovely warm and inviting cottage in a busy village near to the coast of Bude. The rooms are all of generous proportions meaning that three adults, two teenagers and child can live comfortably together without annoying one another. The cottage has been recently decorated downstairs and is lovely mix of cottage charm and modern touches with great artwork hanging on the walls - similar artwork can be bought in the town of Bude if you wanted to take a memory home with you. The cottage has a woodburning stove - which we didn't need to light but can imagine how beautiful the lounge would look in the winter with the curtains drawn and the fire lit. The kitchen has a dishwasher which was fantastic as this left more time for trips out or drinking gin in the garden. The village is busy but there are two nice pubs and a village shop where you can buy any essentials that you may have forgotten in the local supermarket. The back garden is sunny and has a nice decking area where you can sit and relax or eat outdoors. The garden is enclosed making it perfect for dogs or small children. A free car park in the village is located a short distance away from the house which was really handy for us as we had visitors from Cornwall who came for the day. A playground is located in the rear of the car park and we found a lovely woodland walk next to the park which loops around the village and ends at the pub - perfect! The cottage is perfectly located for visits to the beach - Bude or Widemouth. There is a fantastic seapool on the beach which all the children really enjoyed. Tintagel, Boscastle and Port Issac are a short drive away."

"We booked this cottage over 12months ago and have spent the last year showing family and friends where we were going on holiday in Cornwall. Very excited to be in a thatched cottage a bit of the child hazel and gretel in me coming out. Arrived to find a beautiful old world cottage that could have surpassed my expectations but we were disappointed. List of concerns threadbare stair carpet, microwave with no light, chipped plates, settee with no springs, shabby chic kitchen furniture that I thought was dreadful, I know it is in fashion but not like this surely. What a shame with a bit of tlc this could be a real gem"
