The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman ford which crosses the river.

"This house is an absolute gem. It is beautifully furnished and very well knitted out. It was spotless clean when we arrived. The Carriage House is right in the centre of Barnard Castle, so you can walk everywhere, but it is also very quiet and peaceful. The private parking is a godsend. We own quite a large house ourselves and so we often find that holiday cottages are relatively cramped and uncomfortable. Not so with the Carriage House. It is roomy and well proportioned. The area is beautiful and there is plenty to see and do, but it is great to come back to the house in the evening. It is a real home from home. Honestly I can't think of a bad word to say about it. We loved it and will certainly be back."
