The village of Embleton can be traced back to beyond medieval times and during the Wars of the Roses, it suffered much from the ravages of Scottish invaders. Today, ancient castles and ruins stand testament to Embleton's turbulent past; the Church of Holy Trinity is a late-Norman church, dating from the 12th century, later to be restored in Victorian times. Viewed from the sea, the undulating whinstone ridge that shelters much of the village from east winds, resembles a caterpillar, hence the old name 'Emeldune', meaning the hill of the caterpillar. The rolling countryside means that golfers can enjoy a good 18-hole links golf course that overlooks the beautiful Embleton Bay. Recently launched is the Embleton Heritage Trails Project, consisting of six trails, ranging from a short walk around the village, to a longer six mile route, following the spectacular coastline and inland into the tranquil countryside.
Reviews
"I stayed here as one of 6 female friends; our 3rd visit. It is spotless and so comfortable; everything you need is provided, from dishwasher tablets to matches and logs for the log burner. Although we used the hot-tub, the new swimming pool was a welcome addition this year. The staff that we met were friendly and welcoming. The beach isnt far away for anyone to 'blow the cobwebs away' but staying in relaxing was also a hit! I can't recommend this enough - we've already booked again....... :)"
"We (6 women)stayed at this beautiful cottage for 3 Nights. Cottage is clean, spacious and is very well equipped. Decorated beautifully throughout. Lovely extras like good quality toiletries/bathrobes. We all enjoyed the hot tub. The owner is friendly and was available to answer any queries very quickly. Plenty of villages/pubs/walks nearby. We liked it that much, we have booked up again for next year."
"Myself and several friends whom I went to school with met up here for the weekend. The weather was amazing so made full use Of the hot tub. Despite their being several cottage together we could not hear anyone else. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed, the owners had thought of everything. The layout of the cottage, the back yard and hot tub, grounds were perfect especially the park for a space hopper race on our way back from the pub! The staff were friendly and would definitely Recommend staying here and will be visiting again."
"Our partyconsisting of 2 grandparents,2parents and 2 teenage granddaughters have just returned from a week holidayat this extremelywell appointed property. The initial view on arrival was of a modern development with a very appealing outlook. On entering the quality was obvious the furnishings and fittings showed quality and taste. This first impression was carried throughout the whole house. A hot tub completed our satisfaction . The 2 grandchildren and grandad enjoyed the daily feeding the ducks. The village is close enough for basic shopping and newspapers. And the provision of WIFI kept the girls happy. The various pubs/restaurants were all close and were satisfying our various tastes. To sum up, execellent facility and we would hope to return."
"Beautiful, comfortable and well equipped accommodation. An isolated location but short walk to a lovely beach. Great base for exploring the area or walking. We did Alnwick, Seahouses and a day out to Holy Island. After a hard day sight seeing and walking, the options of inside with a blazing fire or outside in the hot tub! Loved it and highly likely to return."
