The pretty little village of Ravensworth lies just to the north of Richmond in a minor tributary of the River Swale. Made up of weathered sandstone cottages with their unusual 'Yorkshire' roofs - a mix of soft red pantiles and slate - the village is centred around a wide, picturesque village green. At one end of the green the popular Bay Horse Inn serves good food and drink. Pretty footpaths run from Ravensworth through the surrounding villages allowing visitors to enjoy many circular walks. Close by are the popular Swaledale market town of Richmond and the Teesdale market town of Barnard Castle both of which offer a wide range of amenities and shops.

"My partner had never visited Yorkshire before so I chose the general area and she found this beautiful barn conversion (give credit where it is due). Our requirements were as follows: I wanted a place we could use as a base and be able to visit the coast or one of the many local attractions. As my parents are elderly and my mum is blind in one eye, we wanted accommodation that would be on one level. We also wanted accommodation that was of a high enough standard that could compete with a 5 star hotel. This accommodation met all our requirements. The photographs do not give justice to the size of the rooms which are spacious and are furnished to a high degree. When entering the village of Ravensworth from the A66, take a right at the pub and drive past the row of houses on the right. Continue on the road and before you take the bend, go straight ahead and cross the cattle grid. Follow the path along and you will come across the barn. Angela and Jack (owners) could not be more accommodating and friendly. They were a great source of information, especially where to eat and the best places to visit. Thank you to Angela for telling us about Duncan's tearoom in Richmond. Would we re-book this accommodation - YES, without hesitation."

"After 20 years of renting cottages, This is truly the most wonderful cottage we've ever stayed in. There is nothing Angela & Jack have not thought of to ensure a wonderful holiday, this cottage is a real luxury home from home. Set on a working farm it provides the space and freedom that city life cannot provide, but should you need to keep your tech in order then superfast wifi and a smart TVs are at hand. Angela & Jack are truly wonderful hosts making you feel like friends not guests, and a local pub within easy walking distance is the icing on the cake."

"Ange and Jack gave us a lovely warm welcome and a basket of goodies to start the week off in comfort - all the essentials - Wine, local beer, biscuits (milk and tea and more). The whole cottage was very well equipped with everything we needed for our stay and things we didn't realize we needed (like a first aid drawer, washing machine and liquid tabs, plenty of basic ingredients and dishwasher tablets as well which is always handy!). The farm was such a great setting for our toddler- feeding Lilly the Kid and the lambs with farmer Jack was the highlight of his week! The ducks, hens and cockerels roam freely which is great fun for the kids too. The beds, sofas and all the soft furnishings made the cottage so lovely and comfy - it was such a treat! The telephone signal, very good WiFi for somewhere so remote and the free-view TV all made the stay easy with young children. The location is great - super close to the A66 for easy access in and out and only a few miles from Richmond which is well equipped with petrol station, supermarket and plenty of shops and amenities. There is a local pub in the village which was a proper local - kid friendly and they even do take away food! We had such a lovely time we will be going back!"

"A beautiful place to stay. Arrived after a long journey to find a welcome pack of essentials and everything spotless and all you would need for a home from home holiday. It was warm and cosy and beautifully decorated . The owners Jack and Angela had thought of everything and my grandson talked about Lilly the goat all the way home. Perfect base to visit a lovely part of the country."
