Situated in West Cork, in an area of stunning coastal scenery, Glandore (Gaelic translation - Harbour of the Oaks), is acclaimed as one of the prettiest villages in Ireland, and occupies a superb setting at the head of a spectacular natural wooded harbour. The area has a mild year-round climate, generated by the Gulf Stream ocean current. Glandore has pubs and three restaurants, whilst the nearby fishing village of Union Hall provides further amenities and a large fishing fleet; boats arrive daily with fresh catches of seafood, which can be enjoyed in all the local restaurants. Both Glandore and Union Hall have delightful, sheltered harbours with year-round water activities including sailing, sea angling, whale watching and rowing regattas. Golf can be enjoyed at Skibbereen, Clonakilty and Bantry, while sandy Blue Flag beaches can be found at Inchydoney, Rosscarbery and Tragumna.
Reviews
"Ballyvoreen is in a quiet farm location in the hills above Rosscarbery with a wonderful view of the distant Atlantic. We arrived on a cold wet evening and the cottage was a warm dry sanctuary to come into. It is a spotlessly clean well equipped place efficiently heated by a storage heater, there were thick towels put out for our use. The water heater and the heated towel rail both worked perfectly. We had a wonderful week staying there and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending it to other people."
"This holiday house was as described, apart from the smell of damp that pervaded every corner and made us cut our 7 night holiday down to 3 difficult nights. We knew instantly that we had a problem as the smell hit us immediately we opened the front door but we tried to alleviate it by lighting the stove and airing out the building as much as possible. There was one storage heater in the house and a towel rail, neither of which worked. The only other source of heat apart from the solid fuel stove was a small fan heater which smelled so bad we had to turn it off very quickly. On the second day the main water heater stopped working properly and we admitted defeat and very regrettably cut our holiday short. The weather was so poor we really needed a comfortable house to spend time in and the damp smell made this impossible. Had there been mould we would not have spent even one night but I noticed that the towels that were left for our use were heavy with moisture and thought that we might do ourselves harm if we tried to brave it out for longer. The owner was very courteous when we contacted him about the water heater but he really didn't think there was a problem with damp when I raised it with him. As a consequence we didn't get offered any refund on our family holiday, which was a shame. I didn't request one until the owner had a chance to have someone local check out the cottage but we haven't heard back since we left. I wouldn't recommend this cottage to anyone but particularly not to someone with respiratory sensitivity."
