This historic town of Kirkcudbright is situated on the north Solway Shore on the banks of the tidal waters of the River Dee. Kirkudbright's harbour is still active today, and the fishing trade has always supported the town. The picturesque town centre is characterised by wide streets and pretty pastel coloured houses, as well as the fascinating ruined McLellan's Castle. Historical attractions worth a visit include the Stewartry Museum and its permanent exhibition of objects representing the history of life on the Solway coast. Known as the artists' town since the late nineteenth century and a wonderful selection of art galleries, crafts, and antique shops still thrive here today.
Reviews
"This house is right in the centre of Kirkcudbright so within easy reach of all the amenities, local pubs/ restaurants, cafe's , shops harbour and galleries. There are plenty of local walks to take right from the centre of kirkcudbright or you can have a short drive and have lochside walks of further afield in the dumfries and galloway national park. A visit to the red kite feeding centre is also a good attraction feeding happens a 2pm most days. The property is in a good state of repair, the kitchen size is good for preparing large catering like over christmas or having a family dinner and plenty of space for breakfasts. It is a very comfortable property to stay in and is of a comfortable standard, I wouldn't put it in the top range as there are certain points that let it down the fire place in the front room has a fire place but no fire (just candles in it) so don't expect to be sitting round an open fire in the evenings, the heating was set to quite low temperatures for winter so boosting was essential, good standard but no frills. I would recommend staying here as a base for the town and the area as it is excellent standard but basic."
