Liscannor is a small fishing village steeped in naval and marine history, set along the rugged west Clare coast. Liscannor is overlooked by the ruins of its former castle which sits above the village, while many old stone houses are still occupied. There is a choice of bars and places to eat, including Vaughan's, an award-winning restaurant, Egan's, a must for wine buffs, and McHugh's.
Reviews
"Very high quality accommodation kept spotlessly clean by hosts Pat & Eilis. Great as a touring centre for Clare and beyond - we visited Galway city twice during our week long stay over Easter. Great to have Netflix to fall back on during the occasional rain shower. WIFI was pretty good too."
"We were greeted by the landlord, Patrick, on our arrival and immediately felt at home. There were scones and coffee waiting for us. As there were only two of us, we didn't use the upper floor of this rental. The bedroom on the main floor had a comfortable bed, two end tables a small schrank for our clothes, and a nice bathroom. Since we wanted to unpack, we had to use a chest of drawers in the living room for some of our clothes, as they didn't all fit in the schrank. The living room has a leather couch and a rattan loveseat where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the bay. The dining area has two leather recliners and a tv, plus a table for 4. The kitchen is modern and basically furnished. While there is a toaster and coffee maker and kettle, there is no blender or mixer, and the number of dishes for serving is very limited. Also, the utensils for cooking are sparse and the pots and frying pan are of low quality, with teflon lining which has seen better days. As one who cooks, I was hampered by the lack of kitchen tools. (ie: There was no plastic spatula for the teflon frying pan and I couldn't use the metal one for fear of further scratching the pan). Since this cottage is not in a city, internet service appears to be a problem. That was a disappointment to us because though we moved in on Monday, we didn't have internet till Thursday late morning. So, because part of our reason for being here was to work, we needed access and had to go to the local town to find it. A BIG plus for this cottage is that it has a very nice washer and dryer. Also, Patrick wasn't concerned about the temperature, saying he understands Americans like a warm house, but we turned the heat down as we prefer it cool, particularly for sleeping. There is a nice little washroom off the kitchen with a sink and toilet, and it is adjacent to the laundry area. We enjoyed our stay here very much, and we found the landlords to be very helpful and friendly."
"Just returned from a week staying in the most beautiful holiday home. Marino is exactly as described and the previous review says it all. Cannot recommend it highly enough. As a base to explore beautiful County Clare it cannot be faulted. Would love to go back again and again and again."
"We just returned from a lovely week in Liscannor. With two smallies in tow a hotel room was inadequate so we settled upon the Marino. The location proved to be excellent value for money in comparison to the neighbouring town of Lehinch, which was only a 10 minute drive away. The pre-stay correspondence was professional as was the assistance for directions upon arrival. The Marino is specifically an extension to the hosts private home. It is truly spectacular and finished to a high spec. The main bedroom upstairs has a breathtaking view from its circular window, with a large ensuite bathroom. The wonderful walk in shower has a massive rain shower head that even assisted me in conquering my 3yr olds fear of showers. It was that fun for him. Ample storage space and drawers for even the biggest of families. Downstairs is the well stocked kitchen, breakfast area, separate toilet and utility cupboard (washer and dryer), comfortable living area and 2nd bedroom with ensuite bathroom and shower. Most importantly is the incredible vista from the patio doors. It is simply breathtaking. Waking up to that view every morning was sublime. The owners Pat & Alish were perfect hosts. Well established in the town, they were/are genuine and kind people who believe in and understand hospitality. They also have a fun and friendly spaniel called Buster, whom my eldest became best friends with. It was tough seeing them say goodbye to each other. Liscannor town does not have much going on to be fair, and our only outing to dinner there was a comedy of errors (see separate review). The Cliffs of Moher were only a 15 minute drive away and the nearest large store for supplies, were in Innestymon (20 mins drive). Other than that you would have to settle for the local garage in Liscannor or the Centra's in Lehinch. Both were very limited. Overall, despite the horrific weather we had a brilliant week. I would thoroughly recommend the Marino for a self catering base in the beautiful County Clare. Thank you to Pat, Alish, Buster & Diarmud for allowing us to be part of your family and sharing your home for a short time. We hope to see you all again in the future. Good luck and all the best!
