Reviews
"My family and I received a friendly welcome from the owners Michelle and Adrian. Our first impressions of our accommodation was its size & beautifully decorated. The cottage had everything we could want during our stay and lovely to have provided for us, tea, coffee, sugar etc. A great location to visit the Lakes, Hadrians Wall and Carlise. Our children said it was the best holiday cottage they had stayed in! Would recommend Carleton Mill cottage to our friends and hopefully will be back again one day."
"On arrival to this beautiful cottage i was amazed at the exterior look of the cottage, but then to let my kids go in first and hear them say wow this is lovely dad i then went in with the bags and was totally stunned at the high quality of the finish. It was ideal for our stay literally two mins of the motorway and only ten mins in to carlise town centre. We stayed for 4 nights and on our last day the kids was begging to stay long !!! If only we could stayed one more night and gone to the owners halloween party gutted :( Cant wait to revisit the cottage again, and would highly recommend a stay there!! Thanks Michelle and Adrain Hopefully see you soon :)"
"Very nice fully equipped modern but rustic spacious cottage apartment Everything we needed for our stay was there. Tea coffee washing powder etc etc. Michelle and Adrian are on hand very friendly but unobtrusive. Highly recommended"
"Lovely cottage.Owners really helpful and right next door. Great base to discover the surrounding area. Loads of information available in the cottage, and beautiful surroundings. Fully recommend The Shabby Scholar in Carlisle cafe/bar, wonderful atmosphere and welcoming staff...we loved it...really quirky!"
"Carleton Mill Cottage is a lovely property finished to a very high standard. Located 3 miles south of Carlisle it is convenient for the Northern Lakes and the Eden Valley. Parking is off the access road in a small cul de sac of exclusive properties about 50 metres from the cottage. The driveway to the cottage is narrow so unloading a large car requires careful manoeuvring and with the accommodation being on the first floor some agility is required! On the main road a combined petrol station and Spa Shop is conveniently situated within 300 metres. Overall the place is great with friendly owners and we enjoyed our time there."
"Great place to stay, handy for both the Lakes & Scotland all mod cons, a cut above the norm, would definitely go back. Owners on hand & very helpful."
"Stayed here for a week at the end of May 2013. All I can say is what a beautiful place. The bedrooms were gorgeous and the beds very comfy. The living area was great. Plenty of space for our little one to run around. The cottage is kept to a very high standard and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a quiet stay. The Popular tourist spots are all within easy reach of this beautiful cottage."
"When we arrived we were welcomed and shown around the cottage by pleasent folk. The cottage was spotlessly clean and all essentials were available. I think that the location of the cottage being near to the M6 motorway made it easy to travel around. It was also easy to travel to the west coast and north lakes. There are pleanty of local shops, including a large Tesco store within easy reach and the town centre is only a short ride. The outlook at the rear is great to look at when you wake up in the morning and the owners who live adjacent were friendly and happy to help with anything at all. I would not hesitate to book this cottage again."
"Very clean, comfortable and roomy base for touring North Cumbria and the attractions around Carlisle. Although within a rural setting it is very close to all the amenities of the city. The location is quiet with pleasant views. Would not suit anyone with mobility problems as stairs to the main living area. Owners were polite but unobtrusive and we would happily return to this property in the future."
"excellent cottage, first class facilities ,ideal base for touring lakes"
"This is a comfortable and well-equipped cottage and we enjoyed our stay, despite the constant rain."
"The property is truly lovely and very well equipped and presented. The added benefit of the appartment downstairs meant that we were able to accomodate (and have some privacy from!) our in-laws. Carlisle, whilst small, is an amazingly convenient location. You can be easily travel to The Lakes, Scotland or the Dales. The owners were delightful. Helpful, friendly and very accomodating (not-to-mention tolerant of the noise associated with a 20-month-old baby and two elderly, slightly deaf people). They were an absolute pleasure to deal with. The only (very, very minor) criticism is that there seemed to be a combination of some unreliable wiring and blown bulbs in the property, so not all lights were working. A small thing, but it did prevent me from rating this property 5 stars."
"Unpleasant owners??? Far from it....they are a lovely couple. The cottage is wonderful.on entering the room it certainly gave us the "Wow" factor. Its modern and yet still retains its original character. Conveniently located just off the M6,its only 25 mins from Ullswater and only 4 miles from Carlisle Everything is provided...tv,towels,cutlery,tea coffee etc We had a problem parking in wrong area and had to be towed out by the farmer next door....Adrian the owner of the cottage, helped despite the pouring rain. In a nutshell....fantastic property, great value, friendly owners and excellent location. Bad points....???????? Absolutely nothing This is a gem of a place and will be returning for sure"
"We are 2 active older ladies who stayed here at the beginning of May. It is ideally situated for walking Hadrian's Wall Path, which is what we were doing. It is not a "cottage", but an upstairs apartment (with a large cupboard under the 20 stairs with the boiler,washer/dryer and a small table top freezer). It is attached to the owners part of the house in the converted mill. You can hear everything through the connecting door in the lounge. The photograph is misleading as it shows the owner's house and not what you are renting. It is inconvenient if you have a lot of kit.You have to park your car up at the end of the lane next to the main a6 road out of sight of the property. This area looked like the local fly-tipping spot. It states that bed linen is supplied. However, we were staying for 2 weeks and when we politely enquired at the beginning of the second week if we would be getting a change, the male owner yelled and ranted at us from an upstairs window. We were told "There's a washing machine. If you want clean sheets, wash them yourself!". We both looked at him in disbelief. He seemed to take even greater exception to our shocked looks and told us that because of "the looks on our faces" even if he had been inclined to supply a change of bed linen he wasn't going to do it now". Our problems with the owner were probably caused by our not accepting the fact that certain lights weren't working, especially in the bathroom. They tried to fob us off with nonsense about them being "a bit temperamental because they are energy-saving".The bulbs needed changing. A bedside lamp had a dodgy connection and the spotlight in the kitchen area "had never worked since they had been there". The word electrician sprang to mind. Fortunately everyone else we encountered on this holiday was lovely, and we had a wonderful holiday when away from the property."

"We found the cottage to be excellent value for the price, especially as we were able to take the room downstairs as well. It was clean and comfortable and our four teenage boys seemed happy which is always a bonus! Our own only comments are in the advertising of the cottage. The photo of the outside of the Mill is slightly misleading as what you see in the main is the owners cottage, and it is not altogether clear, where Mill Cottage actually is. It should also be noted that because it is essentially one building, that the owners do live next door and the only thing that separates you from them is locked doors, therefore you can hear them and they can certainly hear you. This wasn't a great issue for us it may be for others. However all in all it was a good place to stay, and very handy for the Northern Lakes and Hadrians Wall, and Scotland if you wish to venture that far!"
