The pretty village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly shores off Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District.
Reviews
"This truly is a little Gem of a place, the views from this lodge were spectacular. Our little girl loved running around the wide open fields and loved her little room she had all to her self. The village its self is great and so are the restaurants. The lodge was clean and tidy, quite modern and had all the amenities you needed. We even used the on site restaurant and although quite ordinary, it was still great. Will definitely go back soon."
"I made the reservation from 7th Nov for 4 nights but we stayed only for 2 nights. Location was amazing with lake view. Cottage was nice and very relaxing. Basic things like hand wash or soap was not provided and there are no shops around to buy one. We were given complimentary soaps later on from the reception. They should mention this on the website to bring your own hand wash, toilet rolls as they provide only one toilet roll. I don't think the maintenance issues are checked before the check in. The right side cabinet next to the hob was broken and when we opened it, it just fell on my little one but we fixed it ourself for the next guest to avoid similar accidents. One of the hob bulb was fused and was not checked before we checked in. One of the beds in both the twin room were extremely noisy, may be the mattress or the bed frame was broken. It will be ideal if they provide mop. The kitchen vessels like pans are of cheap quality so the base of the pan burns easily and you have to use all your energy to clean it. Ofcourse dishwasher cannot clean them and luckily we took washing liquid and scrubber with us. On check out we were informed that we should strip the bed and keep the bed linen near the door. I can understand that we should clear the bin and keep the kitchen the way it was but to strip the beds?? Once you collect the keys from the reception they do not follow up if everything is good and in working order during your stay. They do have the opportunity to resolve these simple issues just with one courtesy call during the stay. These are little things due to which I am not rating them excellent but overall the cottage was good and exactly the way it was on the website. Tips : they provide plenty of cutlery and crockery but if possible take your own cooking pans. They also provide kettle, some sachets for tea/ coffee but not sufficient so do take your stock as there are no shops around. Do carry hand wash, kitchen roll, toilet roll, kitchen towels, steel wool or scrubber and Bath towels. Most important take drinking water with you, tap water was not really good for drinking. Parking is available just outside the cottage. This place is really very quiet and beautiful. We might go again."
"We arrived at the site to be greeted by a very polite and friendly member of staff who soon had us booked in. The lodge was immaculate with perfect views over the lake. Everything about the accommodation was first class with a very well equipped kitchen and a comfortable lounge/dining area in which to relax. The bedrooms and bath/en-suite facilities were also excellent. I personally loved the heated balcony and spent most evenings enjoying a G&T and looking at the beautiful surroundings. The site itself was extremely well looked after and is a credit to the owners. Within perfect reach of all of the major attractions this site cannot be beaten for quality and value. We shall definitely be returning soon."
"I rented the lodge along with my two sisters and my Mum for a family get together. It was perfect. The lodge is finished to a very high standard with stunning views from the balcony. It had everything we needed to have a perfect break."
"Had a wonderful stay in Pooley Bridge Holiday park, the house was fantastic everything you could want very luxurious. The area was quiet as it was autumn break however this was just what we wanted, excellent cafe and pubs nearby for food, and the pub on the complex satified the males in our company as they could watch the football, will definately return"
"We wanted a 3 night get away in the lakes and stumbled across this whilst searching for cottages. We've stayed at parkfoot in a tent before and loved it so it was a easy decision. The lodge is very modern, very well designed and supremely comfortable. We had a fantastic time here relaxing and exploring the surrounding area's. 3 bathrooms, meant there was never a problem waiting on anyone. The kitchen was easy for actually cooking in and there are plenty of plates, glasses, utensils etc to use. The location is amazing right on Ullswater, we had nice walks and the nights sky was awesome. The clubhouse did nice food and drinks and it was a 10 minute walk into Pooley Bridge for further choice. While you are here; go visit Lowther Castle."
