"We have stayed at all the cottages at Wydon Farm over the years. We chose Poppy for my birthday being in June you get your own private garden. The lounge is comfortable light and airy with views to the garden and sheep graze the fellside . The kitchen looks out into the garden which has bird feeders with numerous birds visiting. Its very well equipped with all you need . The bedroom is spacious and the bed is new and lovely and comfortable and the window looks out to Blencathra . Fabulous to watch the sunset. There are two fabulous pubs within a short walk both do great food . The owers of the cottages are friendly and helpful nothing is ever to much trouble but at the same time should you wish to hide away you can do just that . Milk wine and biscuits on arrival is a lovely touch. There are magazines to read and plenty of information about the area. The laundry room also has maps and books to borrow and has a large freezer . Parking is in the yard by the cottages which has lighting and there are outside lights on the cottage. The roads leading into the lake's are quick and easy to get to . We had a fantastic holiday cosy and warm despite the lake's weather conditions being wet . Will definitely recommend and return ?"

"Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable week at Poppy Cottage, very comfortable accommodation in truly beautiful surroundings. David and Moira were very welcoming and we have booked again for next summer :-)"

"Had a fantastic week, (last week in August), everything about our stay was superb. David & Moira have put so much into making it special for their guests, including a bottle of wine and milk on arrival. Food can be bought at the local farm shop which is excellent, and there is everything in the cottage for cooking. There are also a couple of pubs nearby. The bed was very comfortable. We found it a great place for exploring the lakes, as its just off the A66. I would highly recommend !"

"Stayed here the last weekend of February 2014 and my wife and I had a great time. The cottage is beautifully clean and there are lots of nice touches (bottles of wine and milk awaiting you). The cottage is ideally located just off the A66 and is handy for Penrith, Keswick and Ullswater. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing weekend and will definitely be back."

"Although we arrived in torrential rain and wind we soon were made very welcome. The cottage was very clean, well heated, and ideal for our stay. The owners could not have been more helpful and informative. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday. J & M Haimes"

"Very cute clean cottage -just like the photos -everything you need, including pint of milk, tea, coffee, bottle of wine on arrival and friendly and helpful owners. Settee in the lounge was a bit uncomfortable on my back, but we spent a lot of time out. Relaxing private garden, traffic nearby but not visible and the sound did not disturb us, but others have complained apparently. Good area for cycling and walking up Blencathra. We loved the theatre in Keswick. Definitely going back!"

"Very nice cottage - clean and tastefully decorated, with sunny 'private' garden. Enjoyed our stay, only slight downside is that it is near to the main road, so some noise experience when sitting in the garden."

"What a lovely cottage in supberb surroundings. We received a very warm reception on arrival and were impressed by the location and facilities that the cottage had to offer. The log fire was very welcoming after a day on the fells and the local pub food was equally satisfying!"

"David and Moira were so friendly and helpful and very informative in regards to amenities etc. Poppy Cottage itself is fantastic, a real cosy home from home that we didnt want to leave so we will certainly return. The cottage is close to Keswick but there are pubs and farm shop close by and you are in good range of Fells for some lovely walks. We loved our stay there and will return next year, a very cosy couple cottage with a nice woodburner and features, you will not go wrong staying here."

"We had a lovely stay, all in all, but the traffic noise was very loud and disruptive. The noise level from the motorway was not mentioned accurately. But we came on holiday to walk, so at least the noise motivated us out of bed early and got us out and about."

"A nice relaxing couple of days at Poppy Cottage with the wife, 1st time in 12yrs with no kids, nice cozy place with a wood burner, owners were very nice and helpful, close to the a66 so access easy to that part of the lakes and Cumbria, one word sums it up for me...Fantastic"

"Our only complaint was that there was no ironing board in the cottage. I appreciate that there were laundry facilities however a board in the room would be better"

Poppy Cottage

Rated 5/50 by on 3rd November 2011

"The cottage is spacious for 2 people and its location is perfect for accessing all northern and central parts of the Lake District. There are good pubs within easy walking distance and although the a66 is very close, one does not notice it once in the cottage; in fact, its presence is an advantage in being able to get out and about."
