Reviews
"Stayed for a week arrived on the Saturday shower got fixed on the Thursday apart from that it was alright"
"We went with all the family, and dogs. It was a wonderful holiday the cottage was beautifully clean with loads of character. The garden was great for the grandchildren and dogs. We couldn't have ask for more, even provided a cot at last minute for our grandson. Will be going back next year. Definitely a 10 out of 10."
"The cottage is well equipped and perfect for our large group of eight. The garden was also beautiful with a view over Skiddaw. The owner was very helpful providing advice on local attractions as well as recommending the Sun Inn, a local pub."
"This cottage was our second choice as the first was cancelled due to flooding. But this cottage defiantly wasn't second best. It had everything we needed & more. We was shown around when we arrived & told where everything was & how to use shower & other equipment Due to the hot weather there was quite a lot of flies ( not just in the cottage but also in other establishments we visited.) when we mentioned it to the owner she went out of her way to get us some fly Swotters. The view from the garden was fabulous & our 2 dogs had a great time running round.."
"After really needing a break (4yr old just getting over pneumonia and mother in law who is just recovering from chemo) I was very disappointed. Firstly the location and views were gorgeous with a lovely garden for the dog. The driveway did run to a main road though and is not closed off. The pub (the sun bassenthwaite) around the corner is top notch. When we arrived we were greeted and shown round - and all the faults pointed out. The sink in one of the bedrooms was blocked. The light above it did not work. Nor did the light in one of the other bedrooms. The shower was a dribble and only worked if you turned it on a certain way. We were told how to use the fire which runs the hot water and heating. The first thing we did on arrival was put this on as the house being large was freezing. Heat is a basic these days in the winter. It took a few days for it to really warm up and even then it wasn't ever so warm. My son now has an awful cold. The kitchen was always cold. There was an oil rad which we put in the kitchen and moved upstairs to my little boys room at night. The door to the kitchen had to be closed constantly as the stench of cigarette smoke which we can only assume came from the owner who lived next door in a blocked off room/shed was quite frankly disgusting. The whole house smelt of damp. All clothes - even the ones we didn't wear are now being washed as they smell awful. The oven was not big enough for a large family (7) and the aga was out of use! There is no dishwasher. But there was a washing machine and fair size fridge freezer and downstairs loo! We had to ask for extra wood to keep the fire going, This was brought to us but it was no where near enough and we didn't like to have to ask again. There was a little steam in the garden which was pretty. It was all a bit tired and dated and for the price we paid we expected better!"
"The photos really don't do Low Kiln Hill justice! Spacious, clean, well equipped, cozy...the list is endless. There were six of us and two Labradors so space inside and out was critical, and we weren't disappointed. The gardens are well tendered with superb views up to Skiddaw and down towards Catsbell. Vicki (the owner) couldn't do enough; even to the point of putting up some temporary barricades in the rain to keep one of our dogs from picking all of the apples off the trees! Some of the reviews commented on the lack of shower but a new, permanent, one has now been fitted over the bath. One feature not shown in the photos is the kitchen - large, well equipped, large porch for muddy boots and the cleanest oven I have ever seen. If you are planning on staying in the North lakes then I would highly recommend Low Kiln Hill."
"We stayed in the house for a week in September and really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and comfortable and had a lovely garden with incredible views out to Skiddaw. The only drawback is that there is only one bathroom, without a shower, however there was 7 of us and we coped fine. It's close to Keswick and the Sun inn (a miles walk away) was a lovely little place to relax with a local ale after a hard days hiking!"
"Perfect - lots of space - large living area and well equipped kitchen. The garden was ideal for our family group - large grassy area for ball games, chairs and table for outside eating with spectacular back drop of Skiddaw. Owners very welcoming and helpful - generous provision of logs for wood fires. Nb The taller members of the family had to duck with the low door frames!"
"Our stay at low kiln was perfect. We go to the lakes every year with our two dogs and meet family from Scotland. This years stay was exceptional not only because of the lovely weather but also because of where low kiln is situated. The house is lovely - although maybe a new shower is in order if you have 6 staying-but the gardens were absolutely beautiful, and we spent lots of time enjoying the views. We could not have wished for a better host who could not have been more helpful. I would thoroughly recommend low kiln."
"Fantastic location, overlooking the back of Skiddaw, breakfast in the garden. Enjoyed the Wood Burning stove, not often you get a fire in a holiday let. Good sized living room and all the bedrooms were of a decent size. Owner lives next door, which was helpful. Not a drop of rain all week."
"We loved this place - As above & it also had amazing views in the garden. Pop in the car and your 10 minutes from Keswick and plenty of other things we didn't get around to. The only 'problem' was the fast road it was on - but you could get off it in a minute of walking to find a wonderful circuit to walk/cycle."
"Very well equipped cottage with space for 8 to holiday together in comfort. Excellent views, car parking and stacks of games, books and local information provided. Our party had 4 adults, 4 children and 1 dof, great garden and far enough off road not to worry about children playing outside. Would stay again!"
"We stayed for a week, leaving on Easter Sunday. We loved the spacious living/dining room, the equally spacious bedrooms and the original ancient beams. The cottage is tastefully furnished and decorated to a very high standard: it looks as though the cottage has been recently refurbished. The gardens are lovely and well-planted with herbs and flowering trees, and enjoy a marvellous view over the north face of Skiddaw which is only a couple of miles away. Plenty of room for parking. Highly efficient woodburning stove supplies both heating and hot water. Perhaps because we came at the end of the winter there was a slight hunt of damp, and the double beds are small (thankfully I am not tall). It would have been good to have had a decent shower option. but the pros vastly outweighed the cons. Although the owner lives in an outbuilding attached to the cottage she is discretion itself and is most helpful. She welcomes dogs."
"this was a very comfortable house with room for six adults and three large dogs. Ideally situated to explore the Lakes by car and on foot"
"Ideal for a large group. Own transport required and convenient for Keswick. Generous amounts of wood fuel supplied as well as very pleasant representative."
"There were 7 of us in total, my wife and I and our young boy, and a friend of my wife, her husband and their two children. The property was comfortable and well kitted out. It benefitted from a large garden which we were able to make use of because the weather was particularly good that week."
