Reviews
"Slightly hard to find - could probably do with a pdf map, etc (Sat Nav utterly useless - sent us down farm tracks) - but otherwise very nice, marvellously quiet and in lovely condition. Lovely retreat for half term for the kids and us, I was working locally part of the week but lots of easy access to Lakes, Hadrian's Wall, etc. If only they could do something about the weather..."
"We were looking for a cottage in the lake district for one week. The good reviews brought us to the decision to choose Crook Howe. And we didn't regret it. The cottage is very clean well equiped. It's quite small but absolutely ok for a 4 persons family. It feels as if you are in the middle of nowhere, sutrended by sheep and cattle. But supermarkets are only 10 car minutes away. Great nature is all around and nice places like Keswick and Windermere can be reached in about half an hour. It's absolutely worth visiting the cottage. The nature around allows a lot outdoor activity. The owners of the cottage live in the house next door and are very helpful. We got a lot of tips for going out to eat, activities etc. We felt as we could always get back to them with questions around the cottage or activity planning."
"Well what can I say it was amazing the veiws were to die for and it was so quite and peaceful so you could relax, the cottage was clean and well looked after and the owners were great nothing was to much for them very helpful and polite it was warm and cosy and big enough for us and it also had everything we needed to enjoy our week stay there and we are already planning on coming back next year as even though it was in the middle if no where we got to loads of places within 10 to 40mins by car and its also a great place to cycle around and see the amazing views, there was so much to do that a week was not long enough for us and they also have great tea rooms in Kendal x a must holiday if you like exploring and seeing amazing sites and a boat cruise is a must as you see so much x"
"In a lovely quiet location,Clean and very well equipped cottage.Very welcoming owners who were around when needed and preempted our needs. Good location for access to all areas of the lakes and north Yorkshire.Would recommend to anyone wishing for peace and quiet. Loved sitting by the tarn watching the wildlife. Short drive to Shops, pubs etc."
"The owners were welcoming on our arrival and ready to help if we had any questions or needed anything. The cottage is a modern purpose built holiday cottage - quite small with the kitchen, dining and sitting areas all in one - but had everything we needed. The main room was light and sunny with a large picture window and lovely view. The cottage, although only being about 5 miles out of Kendal and therefore near to all amenities, was located almost at the end of a single track road, so was very quiet with only farms nearby - we loved it to retreat to after a day in the very busy Lakes. The closest lake was Windermere and very easily accessible, as the rest of the South Lakes. What we liked best was the peace and quiet of the cottage, spoiled marginally by being next door to the owners' B&B; which slightly affected the privacy. But all in all we thought a very good choice for two people."
"Very nice cottage with a lovely wood burner. The weather wasn't great but the setting is lovely. Would definitely stay again."
"If you want peace and quiet in cosy surroundings then this is the cottage for you. Warm, compact and well appointed. We were warmly welcomed and the owners were more than willing to advise on local amenities. The cottage is well placed for visiting all areas of the Lake District, shopping and fuel. Thank you for a lovely stay!"
"Found this to be a lovely cottage in very peaceful location, within easy access of most of Lake District and also major road links. Made the perfect place to unwind. Cottage is clean, well equipped and snug. Had wondered if we'd be cold with storage radiators but this was not the case and owners also provided electric fire "Just in case". Thinking of going back there with my other half as he'd enjoy the course fishing - available in the tarn. Travel directions were, indeed, poor. Basically follow the signs for South Kendal, taking the road through the town centre, towards Penrith, Shap etc. Only after leaving the town on the far side do you need to look for signs for Meal Bank. If you take the first turning for Meal Bank (1/4 to 1/2 mile beyond derestriction) you need to turn left when you reach the T junction! Apart from that you should be ok!! Enjoy!"
"A very well appointed Family Cottage set in a beautiful location on the shore of Whinfell Tarn. You really do feel like you've got away from the hustle and bustle here - the Tarn is a lovely sight with the cycling and walking just awesome. If you want a town fix and need some shopping, Kendal is conveniently located only about 10 - 15 mins away, with the usual array of supermarkets, shops and restaurants. Conveniently located right on the edge of the Lake District National Park, the lakes are your oyster from here. With good transport links, you'll be hard pushed to find a better cottage with such good value for money."
"The only slight hitch was the direction sheet that we were sent which was inadequate and misleading. However, it was also my fault as I had forgotten to put my sat nav in the car. We telephoned the owners and they very kindly talked us in. When we arrived, what a welcome. The cottage was warm and our very helpful and friendly owners had left everything we needed to make a welcome cup of tea. The cottage was so comfortable and very well equipped and so very peaceful. As we were only there for the weekend we did not get to go walking in the locality but we will be returning again so that will be for next time. Recommend this to a friend? In a heartbeat - it is gorgeous!"
