The historic town of Jedburgh is a small, quiet town lying 10 miles inside the Scottish Border, situated halfway between Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh. Set amidst the stunning countryside of the Borders, Jedburgh has much to offer visitors. There are charming shops, pubs and award-winning, family-run restaurants to enjoy nearby, as well as historic attractions such as the fascinating Jedburgh Castle Jail, Mary Queen of Scots House and the imposing abbey, which towers over the town and dates back to 1138. Great fishing can be enjoyed on the Teviot, Tweed and Jed Rivers and there are 21 excellent golf courses to choose from. The Borders also offer some superb walking and cycling over breathtaking hillsides or amongst the enchanting Border Forests, and along St Cuthbert's Way, a 62 mile trail between Melrose and Lindisfarne, which passes Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre. The towns of Melrose, Kelso and Peebles are just a short drive away and are a joy to explore at leisure.
Reviews
"Perfect cottage, fully equipped with absolutely everything we needed and more. Lovely location with beautiful views out of bedroom windows. Beds were comfy with lots of storage in bedrooms. All rooms were decorated to feel homely and there was a decorated real Christmas tree in the lounge which was a lovely touch. All the family enjoyed the games room and the games and jigsaws that are left in the cottage for all ages to have fun. Lucy left us a lovely welcome pack with tea, coffee, milk and a selection of homemade treats and a box of chocolates which was a winner with our family. Lucy also made us feel very welcome when she called by to ensure we had everything that we needed."
"Owl Cottage is one of the best cottages I have stayed in both size and location wise, stunning views, a cosy yet large cottage that suited all ages from the country family kitchen which we hardly left to the games room for entertaining ourselves. The pictures online do not do this place justice and I would highly recommend anyone to visit this beautiful little place just lovely. We are definitely going to go back as soon as we can. Matt & Lucy were the perfect hosts and even had the teapot and muffins ready for our arrival which was greatly welcomed after the snow we encountered on the way up :-)"
"Some lovely home-made chocolate muffins were waiting for us when we arrived. The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. When we reported that the tumble dryer did not work, they arranged for an electrician to come and it was fixed within 48 hours. The house is comfortable with plenty of sofas and a good power-shower. The wi-fi internet access was good enough for video streaming. All the household equipment we needed was supplied. We were allowed to turn on the heating for extra hours while we were in the house. From the three bedrooms there is a wide view of the distant Cheviot hills as well as the closer attractive hills and woodland. The house is a few minutes drive from the a68, so locations in Scotland and Northumberland are easily accessible. It is only a few miles from Jedburgh with its impressive abbey; there are adequate food and souvenir shops there as well as a choice of restaurants. The Jedburgh tourist office is helpful. There are a number of shortish walks in the district where you can climb up for 360 degree views of the Borders region. The house is next to the owners' farm, Bairnkine, which has its own waymarked trails. Best point about the house: the views from the front. Least good point: only a small rear garden lacking views."
"me and my family had enjoyed the cottage. exceeded our expectation."
"We felt really at home in Owl Cottage. It's very cosy and comfortable. The surrounding countryside is beautiful with stunning views. The hosts Lucy and Matt were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble."
