Acharossan House

"We have stayed at Acharossan House at Easter for years in a row. Last year we experienced all that Scottish weather could offer. This year was much more settled and the week ended with warm sunshine. The house has been tastefully restored and is large enough for 2 families each with grown up children. The kitchen/dining area is the heart of the house - very well equipped and opening on to a small terrace and the huge garden. There are open fires in the living rooms and the bedrooms are large with very comfortable beds. If you are looking for a quiet property with plenty of room to move and adjacent to some beautiful coastline and wonderful walks - this is the place for you."

"I visited here with extended family members. Ages ranged from 12 to 78 years old. The house is only at the end of a long bumpy lane over several cattle grids and some fairly deep divots. This is the only negative thing that can be said of the house. The scenery it sits in is stunning. The peace and quiet is amazing. The whole family can safely roam the surrounding acres of land spotting the local flora and fauna. The house itself offers a warm welcome. The underfloor heating, central heating and open fires mean that however Scottish the weather is the house is always cosy and warm despite its size. The kitchen is the heart of the house and is a real cooks kitchen. Everything you could possibly want is here from a Magi Mix to a fish kettle. The appliances are top notch (Miele) and everything in it is well maintained. There are more than enough pots, pans and cutlery to have a great big house party. The combination of a range cooker and an additional cooker as well as two fridges and a freezer means that catering for a large party is hassle free. The end of the kitchen has a comfortable seating area and this opens onto a patio for BBQ's if you feel like some al fresco cooking. There is one TV in the library where the younger people commandeered the remote controls. Sky TV was a bonus for the two Wembley play offs that our party was interested in; Norwich and Preston if you're interested, they both got promotion. The second lounge offered a more relaxed area with music and a place to chat over a glass of wine in cosy, comfort. Storage here is amazing. There is a huge hallway with quaker style hooks round the walls and with bench seating underneath. This was a great place to hang our outdoor wear and leave all of shoes. Within this hallway were the utility room, larder and boot room with gun cabinet, fishing rods, wellies and waders to fit the whole family and their friends. The bedrooms are spread over two floors and are comfortable and bright. They are fitted out with period furniture. The beds vary in comfort. The bunk beds are a on the firm side, the very large single four poster is comfortable but squeaks when you move. This was not a problem but may irritate some people. The bathrooms are all of a very high standard with excellent water pressure to ensure great showers. The 2 main bedrooms also have a bath as well as a separate shower. Hand wash is provided but you need to bring your own toiletries. The towels are small bath towels but there are more available in the cupboards on the landing as well as an ample supply of toilet rolls. There were some lovely personal touches in the house; fresh flowers dotted around the house and home made brownies awaited our arrival. This is definitely a holiday home I would return to."
