Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
Reviews
"This was our third visit to Caroline's Cottage which says it all! We love the comfort and convenience of this stylishly converted cottage in a part of the Lake District which escapes the blight of mass tourism and has a genuinely local atmosphere. Well-equipped and well-located - Broughton offers a great butcher and delicatessen, a tempting bakery and a good assortment of pubs, two of which serve decent food (not to mention the Lamb Henry in the Blacksmith's Arms just out of the village which is recommended in the Good Food Guide). The cosy cottage has two wood-burning stoves - it was a real treat to enjoy breakfast by a log fire. We enjoyed walking nearby in the unspoilt Duddon Valley and on the Old Man of Coniston, and also explored the coast and the Duddon Mosses National Nature Reserve."
"Lovely cottage near lots of attractions but can go for lovely walks from the cottage. The nearby bakery is amazing! The park is fab kid's loved it even though older teenagers!!! Teenagers liked the attic bedroom although wouldn't recommend for children younger than about 8!"
"This is the 2nd Christmas and New Year that my husband, I and our 10 year old son have stayed at Caroline's cottage. It is a lovely cottage in a fantastic location and I would highly recommend it. Cosy but modern, peaceful but in the heart of the village, relaxing but with amazing walks on the doorstep!"
