The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic streets.
Reviews
"Lovely comfortable cottage, stayed for a week with our dog, there was plenty of room for us, the garden is lovely with the river running past the end. We sat in the conservatory when the weather wasn't so good relaxing with a book and a drink. It's well situated to get to Penrith and there's a good pub down the road. The cottage is on a main road so can be noisy with traffic but it didn't bother us. The only downside was the shower was very noisy."
"Extremely comfortable home from home,,wonderful riverside location for Lakes and Scotland ,Penrith one mile away,Ullswater 4 miles. My second visit from Australia to this cottage and hopefully not the last ,Numerous restaurants and local pubs, with a fantastic Superking bed."
"The location of this cottage is excellent for visiting the Lakes though getting in and out of the parking space is very awkward and potentially dangerous. In addition it's immediately adjacent to the A6, a very busy road with noisy traffic days and night. Obviously this os something the owners can't do anything about but users need to be aware that there is no mobile reception in most of the cottage with only sporadic coverage in the conservatory. The bed is very comfortable and the shower was fine while we were there but numerous comments had been made in the visitors book about its deficiency. It is customary when holiday lets begin on a Saturday afternoon for a few basic items to be left such as milk, coffee, bread, butter to tide one over until the next day and any one of these would have been appreciated. The cottage itself was very clean but lacking in certain essentials such as egg cups, oven proof bowls and a frying pan suitable for a gas stove. There were no instructions on how to dispose of household rubbish, the cleaning of laundry or how to connect the WiFi."
"Good location to visit the lakes and only 5 mins by car into Penrith. However having stayed in many rentals, airbnb's etc attention to essential detail is lacking with this rental.Cottage is very basic , we took towels but didnt realise we needed to take tea towels as well! Remember to take everything with you including hair drier , dishwasher tablets, shower gel , tea etc! Caution ! reverse on to the parking area but be really careful about the passenger side driveway as it dips and you could easily damage your car... we were ok but we could see there had been issues! The central heating is very effective and warms the house very quickly. The shower seems to have ongoing problems and makes an ear piercing screeching sound when used, there was a message on arrival that this was an issue and a plumber would be coming asap to fix , however this did not happen during our weeks stay! We felt sorry for the neighbours as the noise is SO loud! We don't often put a long review as life is too short to be overly negative but.... the garden furniture has really seen better days and would be very risky to sit on....the seats sway from side to side! Finally on a positive note we found lots of great places to visit nearby and there is a nice walk directly across the road from the cottage where you can walk all the way along the river to the castle ."
