Crantock is a small Cornish village, set back from the coast, close to the popular resort of Newquay. If you want to escape the crowds, yet still be close to the action, this is the place to be. There's stunning countryside all around and lots of pretty villages to explore; however, it is the coast that dominates. Enjoy superb walks along the coastal path over dramatic cliff-tops, or magnificent surfing on beaches stretching from Watergate Bay in the North to Fistral beach in the centre of Newquay and on down the coast. There are a number of golf courses in the area, as well as National Trust properties, traditional pubs and outstanding restaurants. Newquay itself is a visitor's paradise with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, plus attractions such as the Sea Life Centre, Newquay Zoo and nearby Dairyland and Eden Project.
Reviews
"Apple barn far exceeded our expectations. If you don't want to drive you have a beautiful beach in a short distance. A pub for great food. All you would need in the cottage. It was not too hot when we were there so not sure how hot it is sleeping in roof space in the summer. Peaceful relaxing break ."
"Interesting cute cottage. Good location to the post office shop, pubs & beach. Good space for a small cottage with a good size garden. Very quiet and comfortable. Wi-fi & free view. Good kitchen for cooking etc. parking for 1 car. We rented it for 2 weeks as it was child & dog friendly and booked in January. But we received an email the week before telling us we had to have our dog on a lead at all times at the cottage-even at night time!!! And another page about dogs not sitting on furniture and we had to Hoover daily. We also received a page email about hot tub rules although we had no hot tub. So assuming they are so busy they cut & paste to all guests, but almost made us cancel. When we arrived no one greeted us and no one checked on us, which was odd after pages of emails of rules & restrictions. The key was left in a secure box. Would be good to have a more extensive welcome pack if there is no one to greet us and tell us about the cottage and local area. There was very little information on local area. The only time we saw someone from the cottage was 4 days in when she wanted to drop off sheets & towels as we were staying 2 weeks. I would have assumed there would be at least one clean between weeks. Also no landline but no mobile service in the area. But a phone box nearby. There is a few things to do to make it a high end summer rental. Overall I would rate it 4/5. There was lots of positives to the cottage and the location; we had a good two weeks visiting fern Pitt, lewinick lodge, crabbing, surfing, Newquay and the lovely local beaches."
"As an extended family group of 16 we booked Great Weston Farmhouse, Lavender Barn and Cobb Barn for our annual get together. We had three generations staying in the three properties which are in what was once the farmyard. It worked really well as we all had our own space, could do our own thing, but still get together as a group through out the week. The three properties are exceptional with some of the most comfortable beds we have slept on in holiday cottages. Better than some 5* hotels I have used on business! Cobb Barn with its open plan kitchen, dining and living room and two spacious bedrooms made great accommodation for mum, dad and two teenage children. Room for bikes and surfboards in the enclosed garden. Crantock beach is large and not crowded and 5 minutes walk from our accommodation. It has space for everyone. The weather was lovely for the week we were there and we sat next to the sand dunes and topped up our tans. Surf lessons and hire were great for the adventurous, who also tried and organised coasteering (jumping off rocks into the sea as far as I can tell). We did not travel far to eat, mostly using the BBQs and great kitchens in all the properties. We loved the tea rooms in Crantock and the Smugglers Den in Cubert. We will be back to Crantock."
"We were very impressed with the thought that has gone into the accommodation. Everything you can think of was provided and was very clean. The garden is enclosed so we had no concerns letting our 2 year old roam in the garden unsupervised. The village location is perfect for the beach which is within walking distance and you will not be disappointed with Crantock beach which is regarded as one of the the best Cornwall has to offer, The cottage benefits form a central village location and is a stones throw from the 2 pub's, tea room / restaurant and village shop, you couldn't ask for a more convenient location. I will definitely be going back to Cobb barn!!"
"We stayed at Cobb Barn in June 2007 (yes I know a long time ago) however at that time we were not on trip advisor. This was our first of four trips (so far) to the Cornwall Holiday Cottages. We were amazed the property was lovely, excellent standard of furniture and fittings, spotlessly clean and everything was there that you could possibly want. It was also our first visit to Crantock, how we have previously missed it I do not know. What a lovely village, with a post office cum general store, two pubs and a lovely little tea room that turns into a bistro at night."
