Reviews
"We stayed at Cuckoo Hill Lodge for a week and can't recommend it highly enough, as we loved every minute in mid-Wales and have been surprised by the beauty and dramatic scenery of this area. The lodge is in a very peaceful location with great views of the surrounding hills and mountains beyond, it was a perfect escape from our busy lives. We spent most days walking around the nearby reservoirs of Elan valley, surrounding mountains and countryside. One of our favourite walks was to Gilfach Nature Reserve which is only 10 mins drive away. We saw very few people and felt like we had all of the reserve from river to the top of the mountain to ourselves, picnicking at 200m with spectacular views in every direction; then dropping back down to enjoy the tranquillity of the river. There are many trails to follow here for every level and it is also possible to walk further into the wilderness from this point. Red Kites are thriving in the area and we drove 30 mins to Bwlch Nant Yr Arian lake and saw over 100 of these magnificent birds circling and swooping to the feeding station, a truly memorable sight. There is a cafe here and many walks and cycling trails. Cuckoo Hill lodge is perfectly positioned to visit Mid-Wales and plenty of information is provided at the lodge which helped greatly with our explorations. The lodge itself is very spacious, comfortable and decorated to a high standard. The living area centres around a fantastic wood burner which we used daily and was lit on our arrival and we made good use of the full basket of logs (first basket free) along with kindling, matches and fire lighters that are provided. Everything we needed was available and there are lots of thoughtful touches like providing milk, a bottle of wine and some delicious cake on arrival. The hot tub is great to relax in after a long days walk, made all the more special by watching Red Kites flying overhead. Cuckoo Hill lodge is in a perfect spot, we had a genuine warm welcome and highly recommended staying here."
